A Fast Loading, Free Web 2.0 Joomla Template

Posted by: freejoomlatemplates on: August 15, 2009

So if you read my last post about the fantastic free transparent Joomla template then you are probably acquainted with Joomlabear by now.  These guys are pretty on to it and I think one of their strongest points is that they really know how to optimize their templates. They use .png graphics that have been reduced to the smallest possible size and their templates weigh in often at 10kb or less for a template framework that looks, to be quite honest, stunning.

So without further ado I present to you this weeks free Joomla template; Polar Bear:

iPod Nano Cases

iPod Nano Cases

I really like what the template creators have done here too, they have created a demo site that functions as if it were a real live site – the site is called Case Nano, and serves as a shop for iPod Nano cases.

It’s a cool demo and gives a really good idea of what sort of web site you could build with this template.

The  template sports 100% HTML/CSS Layout and the graphics come to under 10 KB which impresses the pants off me (that’s pretty impressed!). It loads super fast and there is also a professional version that has more colour options and layout possibilities.

I highly recommend this template.

Free Joomla Templates

I've been building Joomla powered websites for around 3 years now and in that time I've come across some really great free Joomla templates. There are literally thousands of free templates out there but to be honest the majority are crap. I've personally downloaded and installed around 500 templates and of that number only a few met the grade. I've put this blog together so that others may also benefit from the time I've spent searching out and then testing templates. The best templates in my book exhibit the following qualities:
  1. They should have that special design 'zing', that eye catching design quality that makes the template sing
  2. They must be fully CSS/XHTML based and must not contain tables
  3. They are intuitive and easy to setup
  4. They are coded well, adhering to web standards
  5. Ideally code is commented so as to make modifications to the template straight forward.
I'll try to post a new template regularly. Enjoy the list
